Loin d’être absente de l’œuvre de Warburg, la notion d’ornement brille par son éclatement et son caractère composite. Cet article se propose de restituer et d’étudier la pluralité des conceptions warburgiennes de l’ornement à partir d’un motif particulier, le drapé.

Ce recueil a pour but de montrer que Heidegger n'est pas seulement, et peut-etre pas d'abord, ce penseur solitaire de Foret-Noire pretant l'oreille a la voix de l'Etre, comme on s'est souvent plu a le presenter, et comme il a sans doute lui-meme contribue a le faire accroire: c'est un penseur extraordinairement attentif aux developpements philosophiques de son temps, dont la pensee s'est elaboree en grande partie en dialogue non seulement avec les Grecs, la pensee chretienne, l'existentialisme de Kierkegaard ou (...) encore la phenomenologie husserlienne, mais egalement avec ses predecesseurs immediats (Dilthey, Brentano, Bergson, Braig, York von Wartenburg), les ecoles neokantiennes de Bade (Rickert, Lask) et de Marbourg (Cohen, Natorp, Cassirer), ainsi qu'avec certains contemporains, tels Jaspers ou Scheler. Des ses debuts, sa pensee s'avere ouverte aussi bien aux avancees de la logique mathematique (Frege et Russell) que, plus tard, aux developpements de l'anthropologie et de la biologie de son epoque (von Uexkull). Cette mise en perspective, qui nous parait plus que jamais necessaire, permet ainsi de mettre en lumiere des aspects negliges de l'oeuvre, de mieux comprendre les sources et, peut-etre, certaines limites de celui qui demeure, malgre l'ombre qui pese sa pensee, l'un des plus grands philosophes du XXe siecle. Today a variety of theological approaches offer fresh and enriching insights, yet much of contemporary religious thought can be disorienting for the beginning student of theology. This accessible introduction presents aspects of the thought of Fr. Bernard Lonergan SJ, (1904–1984) in a way that makes his vital contribution to contemporary theology accessible to the beginning student. The author minimizes technical terms and explains basic ideas with user-friendly examples. Rather than a survey of diverse contemporary theological opinions, or a thematic presentation (...) of one topic, the book tries to clear away confusions by focusing on the theologian concerned with those topics. The book will thus encourage creative ways of overcoming some of the unnecessary obstacles for students who want to explore theology today. (shrink)

In a recent article1 the psychiatrist George Devereux reached the following conclusion about fr. 31: Sappho as a ‘masculine lesbian’ experiences ‘a perfect, “text-book case”, anxiety attack’, elicited by ‘a love-crisis’, viz. by the presence of a male rival for the attention of Sappho's favourite girl. He then sums up: ‘In fact, even if there existed no explicit tradition concerning Sappho's lesbianism, her reaction to her male rival would represent for the psychiatrist prima facie evidence of her perversion’.

hoc est, Capitolium’. This sentence comes in a passage based on a portion of the Historia Regum Britanniae of Geoffrey of Monmouth, but is not itself to be found in Geoffrey. Since Luard was unable to find the words attributed to him ‘in Lucan’, he concluded that the chronicler who was responsible for their inclusion had made a mistake. He offers no suggestions about the origins of the quotation. In a posthumous work of G. Gundermann's edited by G. Goetz, Trogtis (...) und Gellius bei Radulfus de Diceto, we find the quotation described as ‘einen angeblichen Lucanvers'. W. Morel learned of its existence from this reference and printed it as fr. 12 of Lucan. (shrink)
